Old Providence

Scuba diving in Old Providence, is an extraordinary experience set in one of the Caribbean's most enchanting locations. Providencia Island, part of the San Andrés Archipelago, offers divers a pristine marine environment with its crystal-clear waters and diverse underwater landscapes.

The island is surrounded by a vibrant coral reef system, including the renowned "Green Wall"—a dramatic underwater cliff that descends into deep blue waters, covered with lush green algae and teeming with marine life. The visibility here often exceeds 30 meters (100 feet), providing stunning views of the underwater world.

As you dive, you’ll encounter a rich tapestry of marine biodiversity. Schools of brightly colored tropical fish, such as parrotfish, angelfish, and butterflyfish, dart through the coral gardens. Graceful sea turtles, friendly nurse sharks and a variety of reef sharks are often spotted gliding along the reef, while the occasional glimpse of a majestic manta ray or a rare seahorse adds to the excitement.

The underwater topography features intriguing formations, including dramatic drop-offs, underwater caves, and expansive coral plateaus. The warm, inviting waters—typically ranging between 26-29°C (79-84°F)—make for comfortable diving conditions year-round.

Whether you’re exploring shallow reefs or deeper walls, the dives are generally characterized by gentle currents, which make them suitable for divers of all experience levels. Additionally, the island’s commitment to marine conservation ensures that the reefs remain healthy and vibrant, preserving the natural beauty of the area for future generations.

In sum, scuba diving in Providencia is a remarkable adventure, offering an intimate glimpse into one of the Caribbean's most spectacular marine environments.

Just ask the local PADI dive shop for a Discover Local Diving experience.

Scuba diving with an experienced local dive professional lets you relax and better enjoy the adventure. Any certified diver who wants to dive in a new area or environment.
For example, if all your diving has been in warm water on coral reefs and you travel to an area with cooler water and kelp forests, Discover Local Diving is for you. Or, if the majority of your experience is from dive boats, and you have the chance to do a shore dive with an entry through mild surf, sign up for a Discover Local Diving experience.
